“Honoring the past, inspiring the future”
The journey of the Federation of Maharashtra State Branches (FMSB) is a story of vision, dedication, and growth. In the annual conference of AOI Mumbai in 1964, some senior ENT surgeons from the area thought of organising a regional conference in 1966. Dr Karnik, Dr N. K. Apte and Dr K.U. Shah conducted the first regional conference for the state of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Parallelly, a thought formed to hold such meetings at a zonal level and the 1st Zonal conference was organised in Mumbai in 1967 by Dr. P. P. Karnik. In 1968, under the stewardship of Dr. L. H. Hiranandani, the 2nd zonal conference was held in Mumbai.
During the 3rd zonal conference at Pune, under the Presidency of Dr. W. G. Atre, a decision of formation of a federation of AOI branches across Maharashtra was taken. The Federation thus formed included Mumbai, Miraj-Sangli, Pune, Marathwada, North Maharashtra and Vidarbha branches of AOI. This conference was honored as the Ist conference of the F.M.S.B of AOL. What began as a collective effort to bring together all ENT specialists under one umbrella has today blossomed into a strong platform that fosters academic exchange, professional advancement, and collaboration among doctors across the entire state. At present there are 10 branches of the Federation: Mumbai, Mumbai (West), Thane, Pune, Deccan, Solapur, Kolhapur, Marathwada, North Maharashtra and Vidarbha.
Over the years, FMSB has not only upheld its founding ideals but has also adapted to the changing needs of the medical world. Through conferences and training programs, it has nurtured a spirit of unity and excellence. This historical account is not just a chronology of events, but a tribute to the pioneers whose foresight laid the foundation, and to the many members whose tireless contributions have shaped FMSB into what it is today. Each decade has added its own colors to the canvas ofFMSB: the pioneering spirit of the founders, the dedication of those who carried the torch forward, and the enthusiasm of the younger generation who continue to enrich thi legacy. Together, they have woven a narrative of unity, learning, and shared dreams.
As we look back, the history of FMSB is not just a record of achievements it is a celebration of friendships formed, knowledge exchanged, and the enduring spirit of service. This page is a humble attempt to honor that journey and the many hearts and hands that have shaped it.
